Tamarind Tea House is located at 24 McCabe Crescent, Arcadia, Magnetic Island and opened to the public in December 2015. The licensed tea house serves morning and afternoon teas, breakfasts and light lunches and is the ideal venue for functions such as weddings, conferences and parties. There is a wonderful selection of boutique loose leaf teas from Art of Tea in Tasmania, rich aromatic Coral Sea Coffee, iced teas, smoothies, other cold drinks as well as beers and wine. All our food is made fresh on site, from the scones and cakes to the main meals.
The tea house is perfectly positioned in a lush garden paradise on a covered raised deck. Even during hot days, the deck catches the cool breeze and is affectionately known as the “the coolest deck on the Island”. There is space to easily fit 50 diners on the covered deck area and 70-75 guests at functions.
The large paved courtyard is perfect for many functions from wedding ceremonies, birthdays, Christmas parties or just a get together with friends.
Tamarind Tea House is very private and can’t be seen from the main road but when you enter the premises and follow the path you will be amazed at the tranquil setting. After a leisurely cuppa and a bite to eat, visitors can wander around the garden where they’ll find the Gem Garden which is a favourite with the young and old alike selecting their own semi-precious stones where you will find tigers eye, jasper, quartz, amethyst, agates and onyx in a huge array of sizes and colours.
Much care has been taken in the garden, particularly with the amazing Tamarind trees which provide the cool, magical atmosphere of the whole property. The largest tree is estimated to be over 120 years old. The rest of the garden has been built around the trees and features a large number of different plants from vanilla orchids to huge tropical heliconias. There are also plants which can be purchased.
The facilities include a fully functioning commercial kitchen, dining deck, courtyard, ambulant toilets, and small brides room. There is off-street parking and a bus stop immediately outside the business which brings extra traffic to the door.
Tamarind Tea House ideally needs an owner who can run the business as a café or restaurant, not a tea house serving coffee and baked goods. There is huge scope for expansion that the current owners cannot capitalise upon. For example, outside caterers are used for large functions instead of in-house catering as the owners do not have the ability to service large numbers. An exciting full menu for breakfast, lunch and dinner would attract many more customers.
